Yes! This is me BRAGGING LIKE CRAZY!  I very rarely venture up the stairs in my house because of the terrible mood it puts me in.  Today, however, I found this stack of books next to Sam’s bed.  5 Fable Haven books, the last installment of the Wings of Fire series and all but one of the Percy Jackson Series-all read over Christmas Break.  When this same kid was in 3rd grade we (mainly me) made a New Year’s resolution to read more.  There have been more tears and fights than I care to remember but we did turn the corner from me forcing him to read to what we have today.  We took away all electronic devices, took a break from AR (my very competitive kid loved getting points but not reading) and found a genre of books that eventually sucked him in.  My oldest child was born a reader, this second one I had to drag there kicking and screaming.  Sam is still not completely immune to the siren song of the magical iPad, xbox and  the apple TV.  I know that before very long I will have to turn over the reins to this area of his life to him-until that day I will keep up the good fight and basically never know where my iPad or Apple TV remote is.
